About The Paper Lantern

The Paper Lantern is the official student literary magazine of Normandale Community College. TPL is designed and edited by the members of the Creative Writing Club and AFA in Creative Writing Capstone Class.

TPL is a magazine run by and created for students. The goal of the magazine is to uplift and showcase the authentic voices of Normandale students. To accomplish this, TPL publishes short fiction, essays, poems, and visual art, all created by current Normandale students. The magazine provides an opportunity for students in the AFA in Creative Writing program to learn and apply real-world publishing and design skills.

During the fall semester, the Creative Writing Club meets to review submissions and share works from the weekly theme. All Normandale students are welcome to attend these review meetings.

During the spring semester, the AFA Capstone Class reviews submissions and produces the magazine, with help from the CWC as needed.

The project is made possible by the Normandale Student Life Activity Fee. The Paper Lantern online is made possible by a generous gift from the Kevin Downey estate.
